Evolution Gaming has agreed to a £4.75 million settlement with the UK Gambling Commission following an 18-month investigation into unauthorized content distribution. The review concluded that two unlicensed operators provided the supplier's games to British consumers on six websites.
Investigation Findings
The regulator launched the probe in December 2024. Evolution confirmed that the unlicensed operators "actively evaded restrictions in place at the time". The supplier terminated commercial relationships with both entities immediately upon discovery. The company stated that the review identified no broader pattern of unlicensed access to its content within the UK market.European Ring-Fencing Measures
Following the initial investigation, Evolution implemented ring-fencing actions across Europe in February to prevent unauthorized access. CEO Carlesund stated these measures ensured games were not provided via other unlicensed operators. The supplier reported that profitability was affected by this pivot, with Q1 2025 profit dropping 5.4% to €254.7 million. Group net revenue for the period reached €521 million, a 3.9% year-on-year increase.Carlesund noted that the negative revenue impact was most significant in markets with low channelization. While the supplier maintains it has the strongest ring-fencing measures in the sector, regulated markets have lost ground. Consequently, Evolution is shifting focus toward the Americas, where a more stable environment is expected to drive continued growth.
The supplier initially anticipated the commission’s review would conclude by the end of 2025. During the Q3 earnings call in October, Carlesund indicated that the timeline remained in the hands of the regulator.
